Yummy Lummi

Hi Cordelia Bear--

I propose that this year's fall resolution--don't resolutions make so much more sense in the fall?--starting school, the quiet crisp air, (the jews have the right idea celebrating the new year in the fall--anyway--i promise that this year's fall resolution will be more creation, less media consumption. more time with the guitar. I'm serious about these songs we're writing--i think some of them are really clever--and I've just got to learn some guitar. Your Uncle Nathan has gotten so good! I know he's worked hard for that--but it is a pleasure to hear him play--he is innately musical in a way dad is not. I hope I am that way. Sometimes i worry i'm too studied, and not with that innate musical talent either. but hopefully I do, it just comes out differently. On good days I'd like to think that.

So it was a really lovely trip to Lummi Island, wasn't it? The walks down to the store in the early morning with you and your daddy were my favorite. Such a simple thing. but so divine, and I felt so in tune with the world around us.

I still don't know if this blog is for me or you!

I love having you in the ergo. You feel so safe up there on my back, with your little head against my shoulder blades. It was fun checking out the tidepools and seeing the "little water."

Another day we will write about "sheisse and your keen sense of naughty words--it doesn't get funnier than that!

You loved spending time with the girls. I could tell you were a bit shy of course, but mostly just ready to move right into the mayhem and frolicking. That was so fun for you. "meep meep" "Cordy just like the girls!"

I am amazed at how quickly you are picking up the french! "Un, deux, trois, and ca y est! c'est tout, c'est fini" I don't want you to ever feel pressured, but you're such a verbal girl, it seems like you just eat it up! You look so proud of yourself when you say your numbers in french! It's so adorable. C'est si adorable! We have to get you a french alphabet book. And maybe some Babar.

Alright, I's got to get to sleep.

love,
your mama

Hi Cordelia Bear

The idea of this blog is more of a personal letter from me to you, my dear.  You already have your public blog, but sometimes I want to remember the things you do and say that everyone doesn't need to know.  I don't want to be the crowy mother who can't shut up about her brilliant and gorgeous child, even though I do think you're brilliant and gorgeous.  :)

We'll see if your mama can keep up with one more thing.

I'll call it "looking for ducks," since that seems to be a theme for you these days, my sweet.

Today your Yaya and I were hanging out with you after the bath in her nicely air conditioned room, and you were running about in your "naked baby!" self.  trying on the bracelets and necklaces.  "Naked baby needs a necklace?"  Your first complete sentence!  Man, you are such a girly girl, who wouldda thunk it??

The other day we were rocking in the rocking chair during a big thunderstorm singing, "My Favorite Things"--I asked you what your favorite things were you said "books, and lighting" my tough little literary cookie.

You love "On my pond," when daddy plays it on the computer.  and "C is for Cookie," of course.  We are all astonished with your amazing vocabulary, with how well you communicate, how much you remember!!   You remembered that the shoes we bought a few months ago (and have  tucked away for fall) were "ecco," how did you remember that??  To say nothing of your memory when it comes to your books, being able to recite some of the songs you sing, it's amazing.  "chicksandducksandgeesebetterscurrywhenItakeyououtinthesurrey?"  I love that you love that song, because it brings back lots of memories for mama being in Oklahoma with Emily and April.  Those were crazy days for us, my dear.  But fun!

I wish we could find you more friends.  I'm sorry I haven't been better about that.  I know you're a social creature and will benefit so much from having other children to play with, I just haven't been able to make that happen yet.  I know it will, and that you will enjoy spending time with "the girls" in Seattle, and your cousins at Lummi, it is one reason I wish we were in the Northwest still.  All your family that is still strangers to you.  It is so lucky we have Yaya, but there's so much richness of family there for you...we'll get there.  Perhaps the neighborhood play dates will allow us to get more connected with this neighborhood--your mama would like that.  Very much.  Be patient, my sweet.  There are many wonderful friends in your future, of that I am sure.  (man, I sound just like Yaya!)

Not sure yet if this blog is for me, or for you, but I'm liking it all the same...
love,
your mama.
